How is the team sharing the history of our educational model?

The team has created a presentation which is has been shared with multiple groups of educators and the public. Plans to expand the audience and number of folks offering this is in the works. 

The team is bringing items forward at the National Education Association Representatives Assembly (the largest democratic assembly in the world) to activate the NEA to shepherd this work.

What opportunities and tools are the team providing to center humans in the educational work? 

Our team is working diligently to tailor a variety of Hero's Journey devices for elementary purposes. The Hero's Journey is a device the enables deeper relationships: relationship to self, relationship to peers, relationship between mentor/mentee, and relationship to land. 

The team envisions this device could be a useful tool for educators and children alike, as we walk the path of transforming our educational model. 

How is the team cultivating and focusing collective energies to recast our model into one that can change the world? 

The team is conducting an ongoing series of Listening Sessions with educators, community providers, children, and parents. 

The team is sharing our institutional history with compassion, knowing that this history has revolutionary potential. 

The team is creating, wearing, and sharing the beaded safety pin, a symbol of support for birthing a new educational model that centers the humans within it for the benefit of all and our earth! 

Why does the team feel confidently that by changing our educational model we can change the world?

Nelson Mandala once rightly said, "Education is the most powerful tool which you can use to change the world." Maybe he said that because he had an appreciation for how many people and for how deeply and persistently our educational model intersects with lives of people. Maybe he said that because he understood that brains are the most advanced technology in the known world, and that schools are the custodians of that technology. Maybe he said that because of witnessing the power of learning had on his own life or the life of his loved ones. But anyway you dice it, he was right.

Today we have the scientific insight that planting native plants, the reintroduction of certain native insects, and/or native animals to blighted land can interrupt the cycle of degeneration and restore land back to health.

Given our animal brains, the team believes there's no reason to doubt that by aligning our educational model with human brain-based needs, broadly conceived, health can be restored to humanity and our earth.

What animates this work?

Faith in humanity, the human spirit, and gratitude for our ancestors and the beneficence of this earth.
